SIMPSON DESERT EXPEDITION 2007
18th August to 4th September
Join us on the Angry's Simpson Safari
Our 2007 Simpson Desert Tour departs and returns to Horsham after 18 days of adventure. This is a self-catered tour consisting of bush camps allowing us to enjoy and learn about this unique and fascinating area.

Our first day takes in some remote 4X4 tracks through the majestic and rugged Grampians National Park so we can appreciate the beauty and wonder of bush regeneration after the devastating fires in 2006 and the spectacular mountain scenery

Next day we head for Broken Hill. The tour heads North after Broken Hill to the historic towns of Milparinka and Tibooburra before turning west to Cameron's Corner where New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland meet. We then join the Strzelecki track for the leg to Innamincka (Burke and Wills country) through the Moomba Gas Field.

From Innamincka the tour travels up the East side of Sturts Stony Desert to Cordillo Downs Station with its old buildings including its famous shearing shed and ruins. We will also see the ruins of Cadelga Station before arriving in Birdsville to enjoy a delicious meal in the famous Birdsville pub.

Simpson Desert Safari with Angry AndersonAfter Birdsville we leave civilisation far behind as the tour crosses Big Red and heads into the interior of the Simpson Desert. Here we take our time to explore the many remote, beautiful features of the desert including Eyre Creek, Poeppels Corner, Approdinna Attora Knolls, oil wells, pristine white salt lakes, Purni Bore and much, much more. We will absorb the sights, sounds and atmosphere of this dynamic area. Dawn in the desert provides a gentle start to the day, as the surroundings emerge from the darkness. As the light strengthens and the air warms, you can feel as one with nature.

During the day the scenery alters as the mix of vegetation changes and many different birds and animals may be seen. Come the night and it is time to enjoy the peace in the company of our fellow travellers around the campfire. Take a short wander and we will look for some of the little animals of the night.

Arriving at the West side of the desert, the naturally warm waters of Dalhousie Springs welcome us and wash away the desert dust at this picturesque oasis.

The journey home takes us through Oodnadatta with its famous Pink Roadhouse and down the notorious Oodnadatta Track. We call at many historic sites along the way including some of the old Ghan Railway Sidings, South Australia's longest railway bridge at Algebuckina, William Creek and the natural mound springs along the South West edge of the Great Artesian Basin. Marree, Farina and a drive through the majestic Flinders Ranges completes this popular tour to one of Australia's most loved desert regions.

Our tour fee per vehicle includes all permits, maps, camping and fees in National Parks, fully equipped escort vehicles, Flying Doctor radio, satellite phone, interesting library of relevant books, plus comprehensive medical, recovery and tool kits. We also ensure you are well prepared for the tour offering careful pre-trip and planning advice together with camping lists to make packing easier.

Fee doesn't include cost of accommodation at any Caravan Parks or dinner at the Birdsville Pub. The cost of the tour is $2800.00 as a donation to "The Dunn & Lewis Youth Development Foundation".
