$4 million for Dunn & Lewis Foundation
May 08, 2009
Shoalhaven City Mayor Councilor Paul Green congratulates the Dunn and Lewis Foundation and the people of Ulladulla for their hard work in obtaining $4 million in funding from the Federal Government's Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program - Strategic Projects.
Clr Green said that Council has been highly supportive of this magnificent community amenity and Council voted to ensure that it was the sole major project for Shoalhaven City when Council applied for funding under the Federal program.
"I think it very fair that Council throws its support behind this major project in the southern part of Shoalhaven City," Clr Green said. "I can see a wonderful place where the youth of Ulladulla and surrounding villages are able to enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, games, support, friendship, and a place that will help them in their wellbeing and vocational initiatives.
"I'm particularly pleased that Federal Member Joanna Gash was also able to help in gaining the vital funding for this project. Without the support of all levels of government we might not have been able to gain this funding."
Senator Mark Arbib provided the funding at a special event on Tuesday 5 May at the Dunn and Lewis Foundation site. The funding is part of Nation Building, the Federal government's Economic Stimulus Package.
The funding will go towards construction of stage one of the centre in St Vincent St, Ulladulla. The centre will include a bowling alley, memorial gardens, conference room, and cafe. Final construction of stage one is expected to take 12 months.
The Dunn & Lewis Youth Development Foundation is a dynamic organisation focusing on initiatives that positively contribute young people's personal, social and vocational wellbeing.
Foundation coordinator Gail Dunn has said the foundation is not-for-profit organisation which intends to practice self-reliance. "We will use commercial activities at the Complex to fund the specialist youth support programs that will be our main work," Ms Dunn said.
